Hello lovely friends! The guest for today's episode was Miss Hollis Wakefield who had so many amazing thoughts and ideas on writing as a plotter as well as the plot as a whole! So, without further delay let's just jump into our questions and Hollis' responses!
In your own what is plot?
"Plot is the structure of your story, it is the backbone of your story. It helps you to pour all your thoughts and feelings into the story while keeping it cohesive, it gives you that balance between being rational and emotional!"
Why is plot so important?
"The answer to the last question was perfect for this one too because we learn so much through our writing, but we need to keep our messy hearts in check with our story structure, so that's why it's important,"
Do you personally use a plot chart? (Note: Plot charts basically outline your story in a visual way I will put an example at the end of this post)
"I use a three-act story structure which technically follows the path of a plot chart, but I usually use a bullet point version instead of the typical pyramid,"
How do you go about plotting your stories?
"I usually start by building my characters and understanding them because your story is focused on them and so knowing their journey and their choices is something very important to forming your cohesive plot, then I just translate that into an outline, bullet point, or whatever I am feeling at the time,"
Do you have any tips for transitions in plot?
"I have two thoughts 1. In the outlining phase understand your character's arc because like I said before the story is built around them 2. Try to be flexible with your plot because sometimes the story flows in a different way than the outline,"
That is all the questions we had for today's episode! So, I hope that was helpful and we will see you in the next episode! And enjoy this plot chart example!
